Helen Tasker
Chair
(Founder)
Helen took on the role to assist local ex-service personnel and their families to establish a support group operating throughout the Great Southern.
Helen brings to her role a governance and organisational structure background as well as many years’ experience in the management of grant funding and contract management.
Helen trained with the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2017 as part of a six-year commitment to the Board of South Coast Natural Resource Management Inc.
While on the Board of South Coast NRM Helen took on the role of Chair of the South Coast Environment Fund, a Deductable Gift Recipient Fund (DGR) to allow tax deductable financial donations toward environmental projects.
Helen joined the Board of the Albany Community Hospice in December 2023 and is grateful for the opportunity work with them for the benefit of the community.
In 2020, Helen put her governance skills to use when taking on the role of President of the Albany Sub-Branch of the Returned Services League for three years.
Kerry Pickrill
Vice Chair

Kerry joined the Royal Australian Navy in 2003 at age 17 and served for 6 years with multiple deployments including deploying to Iraq.
He continued working within defence until the birth of his son in late 2017.
Kerry's vision for VA is to connect veterans and their families with a focus on digital education and assisting those vulnerable to cyber threats.
Outside of Veterans Assist Kerry is a dad who loves to spend time with his wife and 2 children, and can often be found in his veggie garden.
Stephen Morrow

Steve was born in Subiaco WA in 1967 and lived most of his life in Perth before moving to Mt Barker and then Albany.
Steve is married to Jackie and between them have 4 children.
After serving in the Australian Defence Force 1986 – 2011 in both the Reserve and full time with his last posting being in Albany, he now spends his time supporting veterans, their families and the wider community with Veterans Assist, is a volunteer firefighter with a local bush fire brigade and enjoys camping, motorcycle and bike riding and exploring new places.

Jane Mouritz
Community Engagement Officer
(Founding board member)
Jane was involved in the Hyden community for 37 years. She has served in local government, and as an appointed member to a number of State and national advisory committees, including the Regional Communities Program, Stronger Families and Communities Initiative, the National Advisory Committee for Ageing, Internet Advisory Panel and the WA Telecentres Advisory Board. A graduate of Australian Rural Leadership (2003), Jane was also a director of Leadership Western Australia and a member of the Ministerial Council for Suicide Prevention WA.
In 2015 became a resident of Albany in the Great Southern. Her roots and her values reflect her passion for rural communities, agriculture and family., she initiated the Middleton Beach Group Inc. serving as its inaugural chair for 11 years. Jane was chair of Albany Community Hospice for six years and is currently on the Hospice Board as a director.
Since moving to Albany, Jane has completed a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Management and works at the Great Southern Universities Centre promoting opportunities for students studying online.
With a grandfather who served in WWI, and Uncle who served in WWII and a son who served in Timor Leste, and Afghanistan, Jane has always felt a strong connection to the armed services and especially to supporting Veterans. In Hyden she conducted ANZAC Services for many years. She is a member of RSL and actively contributes to Veterans Assist.
Jane lives with her partner at Kalgan and loves sharing the joys and challenges of her four adult children and 12 grandchildren.
